Synthesis and summarizing work jointly. A summary reviews the information and key points while a synthesis adds one more piece of combining the information and how they interact together. Synthesizing the literature is an opportunity to pull together the research with other articles of research in a way that supports or contrasts that research. Synthesizing research brings together the research employing the next level (Toong, 2019).

Developing and employing the skill of synthesis improves the quality of the literature review by combining the summaries to support or negate information (Ward & McCombs, 2017). The skill of synthesis takes practice and adds another level to the summary impacting the quality of the literature reviews. Literature reviews bring together the support for the information taking the information of articles and studies to the next level of understanding.
