Expository writing is writing that has a purpose of explaining, informing, or describing. In other words, expository writing is about providing information to the reader about a particular topic or subject.

    Our study of African American history provides insight into many issues that society is grappling with today. Choose a topic to expound upon, explain how it is related to the history weve being studying, and decide what action you will undertake to address the topic.

    The goal of this paper is:

    a) to connect the history of our past to the issues and challenges we still see today, and
    b) to take some action within your purview toward impacting that issue
    Reference the text and at least 2 primary source documents (PSDs) in your paper. The text and primary source material from Freedom on my Mind may be supplemented with outside sources with my approval.

    Rubric

    The papers responses are clearly presented.
    The argument is effectively organized and supported by the text and primary sources and the style is appropriate to the purpose and the audience.
    Grammatical and mechanical elements are controlled (word use, grammar, spelling, punctuation, sentence structure, paragraph transition and development).
    Your papers should be submitted to me via Canvas.
    Papers should be 3-4 pages in length, roughly 850-900 words total.
    Specific criteria of the class assignment have been met.
    Proper citation methods are used (MLA).
