Literary Analysis through an Interpretive Frame
Viewing literature through a particular lens or interpretive frame often serves to provide deeper insight into the literary text. To that end, I am asking that you respond to the following in a well-developed, well-organized essay of between four and five pages:
Discuss how either Sonny or the narrator in Sonnys Blues struggle with and develop their own identities, keeping in mind their unique social and personal situations. To strengthen your argument, I am asking that you use Abraham Maslows Self-Actualization and Beyond as the text through which you interpret the literary text.
Be sure that you develop an argument in your paper. Consider the following templates as you work toward crafting your argument/thesis:
Character A must ______________ in order for ________________________.
Character As sense of self is entirely connected to _______________________.
Though it may seem that character A ______________, closer examination reveals __________.
Though it might initially appear as if ____________________, a more accurate assessment _________.
