This week you will participate in the debate. You will NOT be debating this based on an opinion you have; you will be debating it based on information you have researched on the topic, and on a particular ethical framework. See all the materials in the module.  You must support your position using evidence from valid research, and you must identify the ethical framework you are basing your response on.

Week 7:  DUE Oct 12 – Round One Initial Argument –  A) Read and carefully review ALL the materials given in Module Week 7 for this assignment. B) After you have constructed your first argument you will post your argument in the appropriate forum by starting a thread. Make sure your subject heading starts with either: AFFIRMATIVE POSITION or NEGATIVE POSITION. YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO VIEW ANYONES POSTS UNTIL YOU POST YOUR INITIAL ARGUMENT.
Week 8: Due Oct 19  – Round Two First Rebuttal – After each group member has posted their arguments (Week 7), you must then attempt to rebut at least two arguments that take an opposite view to yours. (So if you argued in the affirmative, you must rebut two negative positions). Your rebuttal must be founded in at least one reference in the course readings/viewings or other literature you found in your research you wish to introduce to support your position.
Week 8: ALSO Due Oct 19- Round Three First Response – If your initial posting was rebutted by a member of the opposition, then you must go in and defend your position and try and negate his/her rebuttal. If for some reason your initial statement was not responded to then feel free to go in and help defend or bolster one of your classmates original positions.* If time allows continue to respond to each rebuttal.*

You will be participating in the ethical debate this week and wrapping it up next week. First, you must review ALL the materials in the Module, including the materials on ethical frameworks and logical fallacies, so that you can present your argument within one or more of the frameworks you have chosen, without committing any logical fallacies.

As part of the materials, please view this documentary, Shakespeare Behind Bars, before beginning the debate discussion: https://germanna.kanopy.com/video/shakespeare-behind-bars-0 (Links to an external site.)

This is linked through the GCC Library film database, Kanopy. You will need to log in with your Germanna log-in. If you cannot open it from this link, go to the Library home page, search for the database Kanopy, then search for the title Shakespeare Behind Bars. If you have problems with this, contact the Library Help feature or let me know.

Next, you will participate in the debate. You will NOT be debating this based on an opinion you have; you will be debating it based on information you have researched on the topic, and on a particular ethical framework. (See all the materials in the module.)  You must support your position using evidence from valid research, and you must identify the ethical framework you are basing your response on.  See the materials in the module for ethical frameworks.

    Below are the two positions.

Affirmative Position (pro): Prisoners should be given access to education, training and cultural enrichment while incarcerated.

If your LAST NAME begins with the letter A-K (as it appears in the Grade center/roster/SIS)  you will agree with this position and provide a sound argument for it based on the ethical position.
