Nature versus nurture is theme throughout all of developmental psychology. Biological and environmental factors contribute to who we are. Chapter 2 discusses not only the genetic background but also different views of nature versus nurture and how interaction can occur. For this discussion, I would like you to think about nature (hereditary and your genetic make-up) and nurture (various environmental influences) and consider interactions between the two.

    Friendly Reminders:

Use complete sentences and proper grammar. Always use spell check. Grammar and spelling errors significantly reduce the clarity of content and will require your peers to spend more time understanding what you are trying to say.
Citing original authors is required when you are using someone elses idea (Example: Santrock et al., 2020). Paraphrase in your own words when using other authors ideas. Do not use quotes.
Initial post should be approximately 2 paragraphs.
It is strongly recommended to respond to those who commented on your initial post.

Initial Discussion Post (Due by Tuesday 5/25 @ 11:59 PM):

Provide one example of how your hereditary/genetic information has made you the person that you are?
This information should be linked to genetic terminology discussed in the chapter (such as geneotype, phenotype, dominant-recessive gene concepts, polygenically determined, chromosomes, DNA, genes).
You should provide a description of the term and link to your own example to show your understanding of the course material.
Still thinking about heredity information. Provide another example of how genes (your genes or passively your parents genes) influence the type of environment you were exposed to using the concept of heredity-environment correlation.
Where does this example fit within the three different heredity-environment correlation concept (passive, evocative or active) and why? You should provide a description of the term and link to your own example to show your understanding of the course material.
Provide at least one example of how your environment has played a key role in your development. You can compare and contrast yourself with others in your household if you would like.
This information should be linked to shared and nonshared environmental experiences.
You should provide a description of the term and link to your own example to show your understanding of the course material.
Find an image (your own picture or image from the Internet) that you feel explains the one genetic or environmental factor that you discussed. Please select an image that has not been used within the class. An image the links to #1, 2, or 3 should be provided you do not need three different images. Explain how your picture/image fits with the information that you provided on the topic. Your own opinion and support from course material (textbook/PPT) should be present in your explanation. Have fun with this explanation link to real life!
