This week you will refine your population and problem and compare your findings of this problem to local, state, and national data. Consider how the nurse might help them avoid further development, or disease progression (primary, secondary prevention measures). To start your search and interest you might look at your community assessment, or look at the information in your local public health department websites, the CDC, (CDC Wonder databases and Healthypeople 2020, 2030), and other evidence-based websites that the CDC supports.
Refine the health data about the issue that affects your population group, using scholarly professional literature to support your ideas about the population at risk. Look for data at the local, county, or state public health websites. Some examples of health data you might consider are epidemiologic information related to health conditions, reproductive outcomes, causes of death, vital statistics, socioeconomic data including poverty and/or educational levels, quality of life issues, and or lack of access to health care due to health insurance or access to providers. You should compare the data with state and national trends to fully understand the extent of the problem with the population.
