Purpose (5 points)
o The paper should clearly identify a research topic and a thesis that provides direction for the paper that is engaging and thought provoking, The thesis clearly and concisely states the position, premise, or hypothesis and is consistently the focal point throughout the paper.
Analysis (5 points)
o The paper should demonstrate a sophisticated understanding and careful, critical analysis of the research topic and thesis (argument). It should compare/contrasts perspectives, consider counter arguments or opposing positions, and draw original and thoughtful conclusions with future implications for individuals, families, communities and/or service providers.
Evidence (5 points)
o Students should provide compelling and accurate evidence to support the topic of choice. Research sources are highly relevant, accurate, and reliable and add to the strength of the paper; and are effectively referenced and cited throughout the paper.
Organization (5 points)
o Paper needs to be effectively organized. Ideas are arranged logically, flow smoothly, with a strong progression of thought from paragraph to paragraph connecting to the central position.
Writing Quality (2.5 points)
o Paper is expected to be well-written and clear, free from grammar, punctuation, spelling, usage and formatting errors.
APA Formatting and Assignment Expectations (2.5 points)
o Paper should be in proper APA formatting with at least 6 references, a Title Page and Reference page in APA format.
