Choose a historical figure either discussed in class or in the textbook and find a primary source in which that person defines freedom or liberty.
In a thesis-driven 3-4 page essay, answer the following question: How inclusive was this definition of freedom/liberty at the time that the source was written? In other words, did most Americans enjoy freedom as defined in the primary source you chose? Why or why not?
You should think about this in terms of who actually enjoyed the type of freedom/liberty described by the person you chose.
What historical processes or conditions were important in how inclusive (or not inclusive) this definition of freedom was?
You can choose any person and any primary source associated with them. The most important thing is that you pick a person and source that you find interesting and understandable.
You may use the Textbook, and lectures as additional support for your claims.
