Floods and fires, as you’ve read in the case studies from Colorado and Iowa, can lead communities to work with funding sources to adapt physically and through policy; in other cases, communities focus on restoring the previous status quo. The pandemic, along with protests and social unrest in many US cities, were a different kind of shock and disruption. In what way were the impacts of the pandemic and protests similar to a natural disaster? How were the impacts different? What re-orientation in land use planning do you think we will see in the next three to five years as a result?
