    This is a Shitty First Drafts for Disability Myth Project. Myths are ideas that we believe to be factual, but are not true. To help you put it in context, my friend have two PhDs. he did not have to compensate for his deafness, but he did because he had internalized society’s stigma and shame that came with being deaf.

    – it is not about having a great ability to overcome a situation; it is about normalizing a disability (in other words, erasing it, which is not always good)

    description:  The person with a disability overcomes their impairment through hard work or has some special talent that offsets their deficiencies. Shapiro calls this figure the
    super crip.

    Example: In Homer himself, we are to recognize a blind man who is a gifted poet and seer, his great memory and his story-weaving capabilities making up for his defect.
