Imagine you are in charge of a major streaming video service, such as Netflix. Distributors want you to carry their pseudo-documentaries, and to list them as regular documentaries for the viewing audience. What should you do? Do you carry these films? Do you list them as documentaries? Do you warn the audience in any way about them, and if so, how? How do you even identify which films to be concerned about? How do you respond if you are accused of censorship on one hand, or helping to mislead the public on the other? Lastly, knowing what you know now from our readings and discussions this semester about how people think, what do you expect the consequences of showing these films as documentaries might be, why do you think so, and how does that influence your decision?

Write an essay that takes a position on this ethical dilemma. In your introduction, describe the dilemma, making sure to include the different perspectives or positions. Then, in your thesis statement, argue for your position about the ethical dilemma. In other words, what would you do in the ethical dilemma you just described? You will support your position with reasoning based on your personal experiences, your unique background, and your core beliefs as they relate to your chosen dilemma. You will also address the counter-arguments to demonstrate that you have considered objections or limitations to your position before you come to your conclusion.
